About the Role

The CNC Mill/Turn Machinist III is responsible for advanced setup, programming support, and
operation of CNC mill/turn equipment used in manufacturing and repair of oilfield drilling tools.
This role operates with minimal supervision and is expected to independently perform complex
machining operations in accordance with API specifications, engineering drawings, and company
standards.

The position requires strong technical expertise, the ability to troubleshoot machining processes,
optimize setups, and ensure consistent production quality while supporting shop efficiency.

As a CNC Mill/Turn Machinist III, you will work on advanced machining operations including multi-axis
and 5-axis equipment, supporting both manufacturing and repair of high-specification oilfield tools. This
role provides the opportunity to operate with minimal supervision, contribute to process improvements,
and support the development of other machinists.

 

Primary Duties

  • Perform advanced setup and operation of CNC mill/turn machines including Mazak Integrex and
    multi-axis equipment
  • Machine complex oilfield components including rotary shouldered connections and specialty
    thread forms in accordance with API specifications
  • Interpret and work from detailed engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions
  • Edit and optimize CNC programs to improve efficiency, accuracy, and cycle
    times
  • Set tooling, align parts, and apply offsets with a high level of precision
  • Establish feeds, speeds, and depths of cut based on material, tooling, and job requirements
  • Perform first-run job validation and provide feedback to programming to improve machining
    performance
  • Use precision measuring instruments to verify tight tolerances and ensure product quality
  • Troubleshoot machining processes, setups, and equipment issues to minimize downtime
  • Apply advanced part holding techniques and support complex setups
  • Monitor production output and ensure compliance with quality and efficiency standards
  • Mentor and support development of Machinist I and Machinist II employees
  • Collaborate with supervisors, programmers, and quality teams to improve processes and
    workflow
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work performed and production output
  • Follow all company QHSE policies and safety standards
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support operations

 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 8–12 years of CNC machining experience, preferably in oil and gas or heavy manufacturing
    environments
  • Strong experience operating CNC mill/turn machines including Mazak Integrex or similar multiaxis equipment
  • Advanced knowledge of G-code and/or Mazatrol programming
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, blueprint reading, and machining tolerances
  • Experience machining oilfield components such as rotary shouldered connections required
  • Ability to perform complex setups and operate independently with minimal supervision
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills related to machining processes and equipment
  • Experience optimizing machining processes and improving efficiency preferred
  • Ability to mentor and support development of other machinists
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment
  • Willingness to work overtime, including weekends and holidays, as required
