The Houston facility supports advanced machining operations for drilling tools and Bottom Hole
Assembly (BHA) components, including manufacturing, repair, and rental support using CNC mill/turn
equipment, multi-axis machining, and precision manufacturing processes.
The Houston facility operates in a high-performance machining environment supporting critical oilfield
operations. Our machinists work on complex drilling tools and components requiring precision, technical
expertise, and strong problem-solving capabilities.
The CNC Lathe Machinist III is responsible for independently setting up, operating, and optimizing
CNC lathes used in the manufacturing and repair of oilfield drilling components. This role requires
strong expertise in machining threaded connections, including rotary shouldered connections, and
the ability to troubleshoot and improve machining processes.
The position plays a key role in maintaining machining quality, supporting production efficiency,
and assisting in the development of less experienced machinists.
As a CNC Lathe Machinist III, you will take on an advanced role in machining operations, supporting
complex threading work, troubleshooting machining challenges, and contributing to overall shop
performance and efficiency.
• Independently set up and operate CNC lathes for complex machining and threading operations
• Machine rotary shouldered connections and threaded components in accordance with API
specifications and customer requirements
• Interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and machining requirements
• Perform advanced setups including threading, boring, and multi-step machining operations
• Optimize machining processes including feeds, speeds, tooling selection, and cycle times
• Troubleshoot machining issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
• Perform tool proofing on first-run jobs and provide feedback to programming
to improve efficiency and accuracy
• Apply advanced part holding techniques and ensure proper workpiece stability
• Use precision measuring instruments to verify tight tolerances and ensure quality compliance
• Identify non-conforming conditions and take corrective action with minimal supervision
• Support and mentor less experienced machinists as needed
• Maintain accurate production, inspection, and process documentation
• Collaborate with supervisors, programmers, and quality teams to improve workflows and
machining performance
• Follow all QHSE policies and safety procedures
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
• Perform additional duties as assigned
• High School Diploma or GED required
• 5–8 years of CNC machining experience, preferably in oil and gas or heavy manufacturing
environments
• Advanced experience operating CNC lathes and performing complex setups
• Strong experience machining threaded components, including rotary shouldered connections
• Working knowledge of API specifications (API 7-1, API threading standards) preferred
• Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and machining tolerances
• Proficient in G-code, CNC controls, and machining processes
• Experience troubleshooting machining and threading issues
• Ability to optimize machining processes for efficiency and quality
• Ability to mentor and support junior machinists
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment
• Willingness to work overtime as required
